Snow Peak began bringing their Japanese-designed outdoor gear to the U.S. in 1999. Now, they’re officially expanding their company to The States with a new headquarters and flagships store in Portland. Designed by Skylab Architecture, the 15,000-square-foot building features a two-story retail space along with upper level brand offices and a restaurant. The interior is a tribute to the brand’s heritage with a double-height mural of founder Yukio Yamai, 100-year- old Douglas fir beams reminiscent of traditional Japanese timber framing, and natural materials like dark stone. Although not expected to open until 2021, a Japanese-inspired bar and restaurant will offer wood-fire dishes made with local ingredients that can be enjoyed indoors or on the 1,800-square-foot patio. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will kick off their grand opening on September 11, 2020.
